Visual arts Colm Lowney Lucy Medlycott community workshops corporate entertainment promotional events venue branding

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR - Colm Lowney is the creative giant behind Buí Bolg’s picaresque pageantry. Nobody but Colm has ever plummeted the depths of the psyche from which those woolly, wild-eyed monsters and shockingly hilarious characters spring, and we’re not sure that we want to! The rest of the team and all our customers are delighted that he keeps coming up with the goods. Nobody who has ever come face-to-face with one of Colm’s creations can forget the experience! Colm has recently been made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts for all his efforts.

ADMINISTRATOR - Lucy Medlycott graduated with a B. A. Degree in Fine Arts Sculpture in 1993 from the Limerick School of Art and Design. She is a founder member of Buí Bolg, helping to establish the company in Wexford since 1994. During her time here she has played many roles from that of Community artist to Costume Designer. Lucy currently manages the Sales and loves working with all of the many varied customers who utilise Buí Bolg's services.

COSTUME DESIGNER - Frances White has more than twenty years experience in costume design, and is now employed as Buí Bolg’s costume designer. Frances is responsible for designing and creating costumes and inflatable artworks, some of which are pictured in the Gallery section.

PERFORMANCE DIRECTOR & YOUTH GROUP FACILITATOR - Edward Milbourne, it is accurately said, could get a performance out of a duvet on Valium, such is his rapport with participants. Edward is a performer, drama facilitator, sketch writer, prop and float maker.

DESIGNER & YOUTH GROUP FACILITATOR - Caoimhe Dunn graduated from the IADT, Dun Laoghaire in 2005 with a degree in Model Making and Design, and also has a degree in Fine Art. She has worked with the National Library on exhibition pieces for the current Yeats exhibition, and also with the Dublin Lyric Players as visual artist and mask maker. She has been employed with Buí Bolg since September 2005 as model designer and prop maker.

MODEL MAKER & DESIGNER - Fionnuala McMullin graduated from UCD in 1997 with a degree in electronics. After a couple of years programming, she decided to re-train and studied modelmaking in IADT, Dun Laoghaire. Since then, she has worked on a wide range of projects both here and abroad - from architectural miniatures to large scale sets and props. Fionnuala can generally be seen up to her neck in polystyrene.

PROP MAKER & MUSICAL DIRECTOR - Edgar Bird graduated in Sound Engineering and Music in 2005. Edgar has a keen love for Progressive Metal, Grunge and currently Hard Rock. He is the lead musician in successful hard rock band 'Sticky Digit' which is in demand all over the country. However Edgar doesn't keep his talents to himself, having recently taken control of Bui Bolg's sounds. He regularly plays and performs live at many of Bui Bolgs larger events. Edgar not only meddles with music though; he is also a prop maker extraordinaire and can be seen painting, glueing, cutting, carving and much more...
